Press Release

BiomEdit to Relocate to Indiana Biosciences Research Institute

May 08, 2026

Indianapolis (May 8, 2026) – The Indiana Biosciences Research Institute (IBRI) today announced that BiomEdit, a leading animal health biotechnology company, will move its research operations to the IBRI facilities at 16Tech this summer, further expanding the institute’s role as a home for innovative life sciences organizations.

Founded in 2022, BiomEdit creates novel probiotics, microbiomederived bioactives, and engineered microbial medicines to improve animal health and reduce reliance on antibiotics. The company is advancing a pipeline of microbiome-based solutions, including its lead program targeting necrotic enteritis in poultry, as it moves toward first commercialization. The team uses microbiome discovery, synthetic biology, and predictive AI models to uncover insights and support the development of real-world solutions.

By joining the IBRI, BiomEdit will gain access to stateoftheart laboratory space, translational research capabilities, and an extensive network of academic and industry partners, positioning the company to deepen its engagement with Indiana’s growing biotech ecosystem.

BiomEdit began collaborating with IBRI researchers in 2023 through an integrated drug discovery partnership focused on advancing novel microbiome-based therapies for animal health, with potential translational relevance to human health further strengthening the scientific impact of the work. This collaboration was supported by R&D grants from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation that BiomEdit received when founded.

“The opportunity for BiomEdit to join the IBRI community was especially compelling as we have advanced a key pipeline project that is the result of direct collaboration with the IBRI team,” said Aaron Schacht, BiomEdit CEO. “IBRI is uniquely positioned to offer the collaborative environment and scientific capabilities needed to allow us to continue building a leading animal health biotechnology company in Indiana. We’re excited about what this partnership can make possible for our team and our future.”

“Welcoming BiomEdit to IBRI reflects the transformative platform we’ve created to help life sciences companies succeed,” said Alan Palkowitz, PhD, IBRI President and CEO. “Growing organizations need more than laboratory space—they need access to expertise, infrastructure, and the right connections to move ideas forward. Supporting innovative companies at pivotal moments is an important part of IBRI’s mission, and we’re pleased to welcome BiomEdit.”
