Nyerhovwo Obarorakpor

Nyerhovwo (Nero) Obarorakpor works in the Zhang Lab to conduct basic and translational research of autoimmune diseases focusing on type 1 diabetes.

Before joining the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute, Obarorakpor worked as a lab tech assistant at Tennova Healthcare, where she was involved in COVID-19 test preparations and other lab testing.

While studying for her master’s degree, she completed a stem cell internship at the University of Southern California in the lab of Rong Lu, PhD. There, Obarorakpor tracked the developmental origin of hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) heterogeneity using genetic barcodes and identified regulators of HSCs utilizing the CRISPR/Cas9 system.
